About miraDry® miraDry® is a Health Canada cleared, safe, clinically proven solution for the significant reduction of underarm sweat. Performed as an outpatient procedure at Skin MediSpa, miraDry® delivers precisely controlled electromagnetic energy to the sweat glands located in the underarms. The controlled electromagnetic energy distributes heat to the underarm sweat glands and permanently eliminates them. One treatment can address typical sweating, while two treatments, spaced 3 months apart, are recommended to eliminate excessive sweating. The procedure is entirely non invasive and the effects are immediate! The underarm sweat glands are unable to grow back or regenerate once they’ve been removed. While body contains over four million sweat glands, approximately only 2% of them are located in your underarms. Eliminating this 2% does not affect your body’s ability to cool itself. When sweat glands are removed from a specific area, you simply cease to sweat in that area. The miraDry® procedure does not cause compensatory sweating in other areas. The miraDry® procedure cannot be used to treat sweating in other areas of the body, such as hands, feet, forehead, or knees.

Prior to Treatment Prior to treatment you will be scheduled for a complimentary consultation with a SKIN specialist who will review previous and current treatment options, perform a detailed skin analysis, and discuss general health history before recommending a customized treatment program.

Treatment A custom treatment plan is designed for each underarm, based on where your sweat glands are located. Prior to the procedure, your underarms are numbed using a topical and local anesthetic. The miraDry® hand piece is held up to the underarms in order to deliver the electromagnetic energy directly to the sweat glands. Patients report experiencing minimal pain during the procedure. You may experience some pressure and light pulling on the skin as well as warm sensations. There may be an occasional “hot spot” that lasts briefly but patients usually tolerate these very well.

Post-Treatment Patients report minimal to no downtime after the procedure. You may choose to use mild over-the-counter pain medication and ice packs for a few days. Most patients are able to return to normal activities or work directly following the procedure, and you can usually resume exercise within several days. Medical staff will be available for any questions or concerns throughout the healing process. Typically, patients report mild swelling and soreness which may last for a few weeks. Some patients have reported temporary, altered sensation in the skin of their underarms or upper arms which gradually resolve. All potential side effects will be discussed during your consultation.

The Results miraDry® is the only non surgical sweat reduction treatment that is able to provide lasting results. Options such as clinical strength antiperspirants or neuromodulator injections are only able to temporarily disable the sweat glands, requiring multiple treatments to maintain effectiveness. One treatment can address typical sweating, while two treatments, spaced 3 months apart, are recommended to eliminate excessive sweating. Most patients report a reduction in sweat immediately following their treatment and a dramatic, lasting reduction of their underarm sweat. In a recent clinical study, the average underarm sweat reduction was 82%.
