About Tattoo Removal

SKIN MediSpa’s Tattoo Removal laser offers reliable and effective laser treatment for the removal of unwanted tattoos. The laser emits powerful beams of light with very short bursts of energy, fragmenting the ink and allowing the body to naturally eliminate the dispersed ink particles. Since laser light is monochromatic, various wavelengths are required to effectively treat different tattoo colours. Tattoo removal treatments aims to reduce the intensity of the tattoo by 30-50% at each treatment.

Prior to Treatment

Prior to treatment you will be scheduled for a complimentary consultation with a SKIN specialist who will perform a detailed skin analysis, and discuss general health history before recommending a customized treatment program. As the number of required treatments varies from patient to patient, a price quote will be given during consultation.

The treatment area is cleansed and photographed. A topical numbing gel will be applied to the targeted area to enhance patient comfort during the treatment. During the procedure the laser hand piece glides over the treatment area, the laser pulses are fired very rapidly, and a stinging sensation is felt. Clients often report the sensation to be similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. Some areas are more sensitive to treatment than other areas. Following treatment, an antibacterial ointment is applied to the area and which is then covered with a protective dressing.

Post Treatment

Following the treatment patients may experience redness, mild swelling, tenderness, crusting, a sunburned sensation, or itching. The treated area should be kept clean with continued application of the ointment. A shower can be taken the next day, although the treated area should not be scrubbed. To increase the benefits of this procedure and avoid complications, you should strictly avoid sun exposure and tanning prior to and during your treatment period.

Patients will notice a gradual fading of their tattoo. The number of treatments required depends on the age, colour, size, location and depth of the tattoo. Amateur tattoos may require as little as 4 treatments while professional tattoos may need 8-12 treatments. Treatments are usually performed 6-12 weeks apart to allow your system to remove the maximum amount of pigment between sessions. Tattoo lightening may continue for several months after the last treatment session.
