Facial Slimming with Botox®
Some individuals naturally have more fullness in the lower half of their face, while others may develop it with age. A wide jaw line can be caused by a number of reasons such as genetics, age, the size and shape of the jawbone and your muscles. The masseter muscle is a large muscle located on the jaw. It is responsible for moving the jaw and enables us to chew or clench our teeth together. Enlargement of this muscle can contribute to unwanted jaw width and fullness in the lower portion of the face and can be caused by chewing, grinding the teeth or repeated muscle tension. The size of the masseter muscle can be decreased with Botox® injections. Botox® will relax and reduce activity of the masseter muscle, which will become smaller over time. Reduction in the size of the masseter muscle can help to contour the face for a slimmer shape and improved facial proportions.

About Facial Slimming with Botox®
Botox® is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacterium. Facial slimming with Botox® is a non-surgical treatment that can soften and slim the jaw line and lower portion of the face by causing the relaxing of the masseter muscle. During treatment, very low doses of Botox® are injected directed into the muscle. Botox® works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the masseter muscles that causes the bulkiness in the jaw line, giving the face a more relaxed and refreshed look. Because of its effectiveness and safety record, Botox® injections are used for a variety of medical and medical aesthetic purposes.
Prior to Treatment
Prior to treatment you will be scheduled for a complimentary consultation with our medical director with expertise in aesthetic injections, and over 20 years experience in creating beautiful aesthetic outcomes for patients of all ages. Our medical director will recommend a custom treatment program based on each client’s medical history and needs. As the dosage varies from client to client, a price quote will be provided at the time of consultation.
The treatment will take roughly 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Your aesthetic professional may choose to numb the area with a cold pack prior to performing the injection to minimize any discomfort.
After treatment you may experience some mild redness, tenderness or some minor bruising and swelling at the injection sites. These symptoms typically subside within a day or so. Most patients return to regular activity immediately. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 4 hours after injection and the treated areas should not be rubbed for 24 hours after treatment.
It will take some time to see the results of your treatment as the masseter muscle weakens and decreases in size. Typically patients report improvement within 4 to 8 weeks of their appointment, with results lasting anywhere from 6 months up to a year. The muscle activity that causes bulkiness in your lower face is reduced, but will not affect your ability to chew or use your muscle. Follow-up treatments may be recommended by your provider to maintain your results.
Botox® should not be administered to pregnant women, nursing mothers or individuals suffering with myasthenia gravis or muscle diseases.
